Materials-List of words-Scissors -Glue -Construction paper -Common Prefixes, Suffixes, and Roots activity sheet (See Attached File.) -Common Prefixes, Suffixes, and Roots activity sheet 2 (See Attached File.) Preparations1. Make copies of documents in the attached file.2. Gather materials for activity. Procedures1. Ask students if they are familiar with prefixes, suffixes, and root words.2. Encourage students to share their experiences with prefixes, suffixes, and root words. 3. Discuss prefixes, suffixes, and root words. 4. Write words on board, and then have students identify prefixes, suffixes, and root words by coming to the board. (Examples: automobile, microscope, scientist, manageable, produce, autograph, telephone, etc.) 5. Distribute both Prefixes, Suffixes, and Root Word activity sheets along with scissors, glue, and construction paper. (See Attached File.) 6. Ask students to cut and paste the prefixes, suffixes, and root words to the word list. 7. Students are assessed on completing the activity and placing the word parts under the correct heading. 8. Have students to check their work to make sure every word has either a prefix, suffix, and root word. 9. Encourage students to assess their work by making sure it is completed. Give time for discussion and feedback. AssessmentsFormatively assess the students' ability to identify word parts, such as prefixes, suffixes, and root words. Given a list of words, students cut out and correctly place words parts in the appropriate columns: prefixes, suffixes, and root words.
