Description
Family Cookbook is a published collection of recipes emphasizing number names and ingredients in a picture book format.

LA.B.1.2.1
The student prepares for writing by recording thoughts, focusing on a central idea, grouping related ideas, and identifying the purpose for writing.
LA.B.1.2.2

-Computer stations have pre-loaded word processing software and scanner software with printer and scanner capabilities

Preparations
1. Gather materials
2. Pre-load software at computer stations
Procedures
1. Students bring in recipes of a favorite family dish.
2. Students use the recipe to create a page for a class cookbook. They are required to write the recipe in their own words with numerical word names in parenthesis, as well as a pictorial representation of the measured ingredients (as previewed on their copies of Family Cookbook Mathematical Assessment.
3. Students share the draft recipe with three peers, then with the teacher.
4. Students use word processing software to type their final recipes and use a publishing program to scan in their measurement drawings.
5. Students use The Florida Writes scoring rubric to evaluate their work.
6. Students conference individually with the teacher, sharing all of their copies and self-assessment.
7. Teacher assesses using Family Cookbook Assessment Guide.
