Students design and perform games that allow for group discussion and participation.
Standards
Florida Sunshine State Standards PE.C.2.2.3 The student designs and performs games, gymnastics, and dance sequences that allow for group creativity and discussion.
Florida Process Standards Cooperative Workers 08 Florida students work cooperatively to successfully complete a project or activity.
Materials
-Paper and pencil for each student
-Dry erase board and marker for teacher
Preparations
1. Teacher needs to assign groups of 4.
2. Teacher needs to review the criteria for the assignment in the assessment section.
3. Students need pencil and paper.
4. Teacher needs dry erase board and marker.
Procedures
In this lesson, students will create and perform games that allow for group creativity and discussion.
1. Ask if students like playing games.
2. Allow the students to briefly discuss what they like most about playing games.
3. Discuss with students how to create a successful game.
4. Brainstorm and create a list of the content of a successful game. If students don't mention these items, the teacher should lead them into a discussion of the appropriate items for the list.

5. Allow the students to use the following categories to score their checklist.
Bronze medal: Students will have 4 of the 8 components.
Silver medal: Students will have 6 of the 8 components.
Gold medal: Students will have all 8 components.
6. Have the students break up into groups of 3 or 4. The groups will create and present a game to the class. They must use all 8 steps.
7. Students will discuss and score their games.
8. Let the students vote on and play their favorite game.
Assessments
As a formative assessment, the students will be observed working with and participating in group discussion. Using the checklist below, the students will be placed in groups to design, explain and perform a game. The students will use the following categories to score their checklist
Bronze medal-Student must have 4 of the 8 items from the checklist
Silver medal- Student must have 6 of the 8 items from the checklist.
Gold medal-Student must have all 8 items from the checklist

Extensions
This lesson can be extended to the classroom teacher or technology teacher by having the students type up, print and bind as a class publication.
