Knowledge/Skills: Students will be able to utilitze a Venn diagram as a prewriting strategy. Procedure: 1. Teacher facilitates a discussion of the benefits of brainstorming. 2. Teacher gives a visual demonstration on the board or overhead of a Venn diagram. 3. Teacher models using the Venn diagram, asking students to provide similarities and differences for two teachers (athletes, stars, etc.) that students know. 4. Students create a Venn diagram or a chart that shows the similarities and differences. 5. Students take the information from the Venn diagram and turn it into an outline for their papers. 6. Students assess their own work using the rubric developed.
