Give Me Five
Students become aware of their senses by taking a walking field trip, creating a word bank, reading a story and singing a song. This is the first lesson in A Sensesational Christmas unit that also includes a diagnostic assessment.

Looks Like Christmas, Exploring Sight
In this lesson, students will explore their sense of sight, learn about the eyes and how to keep them safe, and become familiar with how to help blind people become a part of their world.

Sounds Like Christmas, Exploring Hearing
In this lesson, students learn that the sense of hearing helps us learn from each other through communication. Also, students learn sound can produce patterns.

Feels Like Christmas, Exploring Touch
The sense of touch helps us learn about our world by feeling it and learning the size, texture, and shape of things. In this activity, students will classify four different sandpaper shapes by using only their sense of touch.

Smells Like Christmas, Exploring The Nose
In this lesson, students learn that the sense of smell helps us to enjoy life and learn about unsafe conditions. Students will smell Christmas by making gingerbread ornaments.

Tastes Like Christmas, Exploring Taste
Taste helps us, among other things, to select and enjoy food. In this lesson, students learn about taste buds and the four familiar tastes.

Popping popcorn is a fun way to summarize the end of the five senses unit. It is easy to involve all the senses.
