Gregor Johann Mendel

Peas, peas, and more peas

Gregor Johann Mendel was an Augustinian monk. Mendel lived in the 1800's and conducted experiments on pea plants.
Mendel tested around 28,000 pea plants carefully analyzing 7 different characteristics about the plants. Because of Mendel's hard work, the things that he observed later became known as the laws of heredity.  He is responsible for the creation of two laws called Mendel's Laws.

Mendel's work was not appreciated until the next century when three different investigators realized its importance. Mendel's work was ignored during his lifetime.
